Remembering Joanne

Joanne volunteering at a BMAS bbq in the past, with her very creative apron!

Nischan, Joanne (nee Kelly) passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday May 28, 2019 in her 73rd year.
Joanne was a dedicated member of the Blue Mountains Animal Shelter and past Board member. She was an active member of animal care (specifically medications and adoptions), a devout fundraiser and an advocate for all of her furry friends.
In lieu of flowers donations in Joanne’s memory were requested to be made to the Blue Mountains Animal Shelter.

Joanne has been with the shelter as a volunteer and cat care committee member for many many years, long before we pulled away from what is now GTHS (Georgian Triangle Humane Society). She was very dedicated to our kitties and felt bad when she could no longer work her Tuesday shifts at the shelter.

Joanne was a kind, spirited individual who cared deeply about the cats and the shelter, and was always a driving force. She was a strong and natural leader for us. She is greatly and deeply missed by the shelter volunteers and especially the cats. She had been struggling with her health for quite some time.

Some words and thoughts about Joanne from our volunteers:

"Very special individual...heartbroken at this loss to our shelter & the world.  Joanne was kind, principled, inspirational, funny, led by example & didn’t suffer fools lightly."

"I personally will very much miss her presence & welcomed common sense on this earth."

"Joanne was such a dedicated volunteer to the cat shelter and will be missed."

"Joanne was very dedicated to the cats in our shelter and to her own."

"I still cannot believe she is gone. She was so dedicated to the shelter and cats. I like to think she is now with the kitties that went before her, and her own cat who had recently passed. This is a hard hit for us."
